Rustic Rails

A few weeks ago I was approached by the owners of Rustic Rails to do product photography.  I've never ventured into that area before but thought I would give it a try. After meeting with them and getting a feel for what they wanted I went to work. Before we get to the product images lets take a minute to meet these ladies and what they offer.

The Year Was 1983

The year was 1983. We cruised the highways of California with Ponch and John, laughed along with Taxi and SCTV,  waited to see what would happen with Joanie and Chachi and cried a little as we said goodbye to MASH.

It was a huge year at the movies with titles like Star Wars Episode VI, Tootsie, Trading Places, War Games, National Lampoon's Vacation (are you singing the song in your head too) and Terms of Endearment.

The average cost of a new house was $82,600, average income was $21,070.00, a Ford Mustang cost $6,572.00, milk was $1.35 and in 1983 I discovered hard rock and metal.

So without further ado here are my favorite songs in order from 1983.

#16 Down Under - Men At Work

They were an Australian rock band formed in 79. In January of 83 they were the first Australian artists to have a simultaneous #1 album and #1 single in the United States.

#15 Total Eclipse Of The Heart - Bonnie Tyler

A Welsh Singer, known for her husky voice, Bonnie became popular with her 1977 album release The World Starts Tonight. Her single from that album It's A heartache reached #3 on the Billboard hot 100.

#14 Balls To The Walls - Accept

Accept is a German Heavy Metal band formed by former singer Udo Dirkschneider (say that 10 times fast.) The band played an important role in the developement of speed and thrash metal.

#13 Breaking The Chains - Dokken

Dokken was formed in 1979, split up in 89 and reformed four years later. They had 3 charting singles and sold 10 million albums worldwide.

#12 I Know There's Something going On - Frida

Frida Princess Reuss of Plauen is a Norwegian born singer best know as one of the two singers of ABBA.

#11 Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy - Sammy Hagar

Mr. Red Rocker himself Sammy became popular in the 70's with the band Montrose then launched a successful solo career befor replacing and making better in my opinion Van Halen. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007 as a member of Van Halen.

#10 Cum On Feel The Noise - Quiet Riot

An is American Heavy Metal Band formed by Ozzy's right hand man Randy Rhoads in 1973. Their first name was Mach 1 they changed their name to Little Women before setteling on Quiet Riot in 75. The band is ranked #100 on VH1's Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. A little side history. I cut a chord of wood to earn enough money to buy this album.

#9 Rebel Yell - Billy Idol

Michael Albert Broad better know as Billy Idol is an English musician, singer, songwriter and actor. He came to fame in the 70's in the punk band Generation X.

#8 The Trooper - Iron Maiden

An English Heavy metal band formed in London in 75 by bassist Steve Harris, Iron Maiden has 38 albums, including 16 studio, 12 live and 7 compilations.

#7 Seek And Destroy - Metallica

The band was formed in 81 by drummer Lars Ulrich (top 10 best drummers ever) and singer James Hetfield. The line up has changed over the years as well as the their sound but they remain one of the most influential Metal band of all time.

#6 Screeming In The Night Krokus

Krokus is a hard rock band from Switzerland founded in 1975. They had several hits in the 80's but this one is one of my all time favorites that turned me on to power ballads.

#5 Photograph - Def Leppard

An English band formed in 1977 as part of the new wave British heavy metal movement I found them through this song even though they had a couple albums previous to Pyromania. I loved this whole album so much I literally listened to it over and over on our vacation to the East Coast and back.

#4 Little Red Corvette - #3 1999 - Prince

God rest his soul ( he was one of my favorite artists from the early 80's) Prince was known for his electric work, flamboyant stage presence, extravagant fashion sense and use of makeup. He sold over 100 millionrecords worldwide, making him one of the best selling music artists of all time.

#2 Looks That Kill - #1 Shout At The Devil - Motley Crue

An American heavy metal band and my all time favorite hair band, they were formed in L.A. in 1981. Crue has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, including 25 million in the United States making them one of the all time best sell bands. Is it weird that over 30 years later I can still recite the opening lines to this song. Enjoy metal heads.

As you can see my musical tastes are changing as I hit my teen years but it's all in good fun. I don't see it as any different than when our parents were into Elvis. I hope you enjoyed this weeks installment of music from 1983. What were your favorite bands and songs, hit me up and let me know. Also as an Amazon Affiliate let me know what products you would like me to offer. See you next week in 1984 it was a huge year for music, think Jovi and Van Halen and many more.

A Blog About Nothing

So everything I have read about photography says if you want to stay relevant and gain popularity you need to blog. Great, isn't that what we all want. I want to be relevant, I want my images to be popular, I want to be popular. I think we all try to be relevant to some extent, but that's for another blog. First and foremost thank you Google for pointing out the fact that I was irrelevant. Just a no body who took pictures and posted them on the web.

Ok so let's do this blogging thing. Find a host site, check. Thank you Squarespace. Get your page up and running just the way you want it, check. Again thank you Squarespace for making this page somewhat easy to set up. I only struggled for a short time.  Now I'm ready to post my first blog.

They say you should blog at least twice a week. I don't know who THEY are but for some reason I feel THEY know what THEY are talking about so I will listen. The sarcasm is strong with this one Obi Wan.

So here I sit ready to post my first blog to the world. But wait. Just what in the Sam hell am I supposed to write about. Should I actually write about photography? There are probably millions of photography blogs. How is that going to help me get noticed?

Should I write about training for my first half marathon and how far I have come and how I've already run two shorter races this year? Well maybe. Someone might read that. It's inspirational to me anyway. But why read about me when you can go to Runners World and hear from the best of the best. And believe me I am far from the best of the best. But I try. They will teach you how to become relevant in the running world.

Do I write about my travels around the state? I can. If you want to hear how rainy and muddy it was for me this week. But who really wants to hear about that. Oh ya THEY said my blogs needed to be positive as well so no negativity. So that rules out blogging about this weeks travels even though the project I was on turned out great. Hold on while I give myself a pat on the back....

Do I write about my family? Maybe a little. But in today's society do you really want a bunch of personal information out there floating around cyberspace. The least we can do is try to make it hard for the bad guys to steal our identities. I can write about my furry children. Jacob our King Charles which is my daughters dog and Ted the Shih Tzu my wife's.Trust me no one is going to want to steal them or their identities. But at least after coming from the groomers today they smell good. I myself am more of a mid to large sized dog guy. But if I'm being completely honest I do love the little turds. We had to put my dog Chance down last year. He was big, strong and self cleaning. He shed like no other animal on earth I swear. Whoops the blog police are going to come after me. That was kind of sad. Well I guess THEY never said anything about sad just not negative so maybe I'm safe.

I guess what it boils down to is I'm going to write whatever the heck I feel like writing. And THEY, the blog police can go to H E double toothpicks for all I care. Each blog will probably surprise me as much as it will surprise you. So as I sit and ponder about what to write I realize that I have my first blog written.  I have basically written a blog about nothing. This must be what the writers of Seinfeld did on a weekly basis. Who knows maybe next week's blog will be about a puffy shirt or being the master of my own domain.  I guess we will all have to wait and see.  Bye ya'll.
