1984 the year all of us boys were practicing our David Lee Roth jumping kick and the girls were all swooning over John Bon Jovi and each week we tuned into a place where everyone knows your name.Read More
The year was 1983. We cruised the highways of California with Ponch and John, laughed along with Taxi and SCTV, waited to see what would happen with Joanie and Chachi and cried a little as we said goodbye to MASH.
It was a huge year at the movies with titles like Star Wars Episode VI, Tootsie, Trading Places, War Games, National Lampoon's Vacation (are you singing the song in your head too) and Terms of Endearment.
The average cost of a new house was $82,600, average income was $21,070.00, a Ford Mustang cost $6,572.00, milk was $1.35 and in 1983 I discovered hard rock and metal.
So without further ado here are my favorite songs in order from 1983.
#16 Down Under - Men At Work
They were an Australian rock band formed in 79. In January of 83 they were the first Australian artists to have a simultaneous #1 album and #1 single in the United States.

A Welsh Singer, known for her husky voice, Bonnie became popular with her 1977 album release The World Starts Tonight. Her single from that album It's A heartache reached #3 on the Billboard hot 100.
#14 Balls To The Walls - Accept

#12 I Know There's Something going On - Frida
Frida Princess Reuss of Plauen is a Norwegian born singer best know as one of the two singers of ABBA.
#11 Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy - Sammy Hagar
Mr. Red Rocker himself Sammy became popular in the 70's with the band Montrose then launched a successful solo career befor replacing and making better in my opinion Van Halen. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007 as a member of Van Halen.
#10 Cum On Feel The Noise - Quiet Riot
An is American Heavy Metal Band formed by Ozzy's right hand man Randy Rhoads in 1973. Their first name was Mach 1 they changed their name to Little Women before setteling on Quiet Riot in 75. The band is ranked #100 on VH1's Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. A little side history. I cut a chord of wood to earn enough money to buy this album.
#9 Rebel Yell - Billy Idol
Michael Albert Broad better know as Billy Idol is an English musician, singer, songwriter and actor. He came to fame in the 70's in the punk band Generation X.
#8 The Trooper - Iron Maiden

#7 Seek And Destroy - Metallica
The band was formed in 81 by drummer Lars Ulrich (top 10 best drummers ever) and singer James Hetfield. The line up has changed over the years as well as the their sound but they remain one of the most influential Metal band of all time.
#6 Screeming In The Night Krokus
Krokus is a hard rock band from Switzerland founded in 1975. They had several hits in the 80's but this one is one of my all time favorites that turned me on to power ballads.
#5 Photograph - Def Leppard
An English band formed in 1977 as part of the new wave British heavy metal movement I found them through this song even though they had a couple albums previous to Pyromania. I loved this whole album so much I literally listened to it over and over on our vacation to the East Coast and back.
#4 Little Red Corvette - #3 1999 - Prince
God rest his soul ( he was one of my favorite artists from the early 80's) Prince was known for his electric work, flamboyant stage presence, extravagant fashion sense and use of makeup. He sold over 100 millionrecords worldwide, making him one of the best selling music artists of all time.
#2 Looks That Kill - #1 Shout At The Devil - Motley Crue
An American heavy metal band and my all time favorite hair band, they were formed in L.A. in 1981. Crue has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, including 25 million in the United States making them one of the all time best sell bands. Is it weird that over 30 years later I can still recite the opening lines to this song. Enjoy metal heads.
As you can see my musical tastes are changing as I hit my teen years but it's all in good fun. I don't see it as any different than when our parents were into Elvis. I hope you enjoyed this weeks installment of music from 1983. What were your favorite bands and songs, hit me up and let me know. Also as an Amazon Affiliate let me know what products you would like me to offer. See you next week in 1984 it was a huge year for music, think Jovi and Van Halen and many more.

Welcome to 1982, this was the year I let my hair grow out like Scott Baio and gave myself my first tattoo with a pin and non-toxic ink. What else happened in 82? I'm glad you asked. Jump into the Delorean and let's take a trip back in time.
In 1982 Doctors performed the first implant of a permanent heart, Michael Jackson releases Thriller, the very first CD player was sold in Japan, Time magazines man of the year was the computer, EPCOT Center opened and commercial Whaling was ended.

The hot movies were, E.T., Rocky 3, Porky's, An Officer and a Gentleman and Poltergeist. On TV we watched, Magnum, P.I., Dynasty, Falcon Crest and Knight Rider
Now to make you feel really old, born this year was Kelly Clarkson and LeAnn Rimes.
Now for my favorite part, the Music. Here are my favorite songs in order from 1982. EnjoyRead More
The year was 1981 and every boy wished he could have Jessie's girl. The space shuttle Columbia had it's first flight, the aids virus was identified, the word internet was first mentioned, MS Dos was released along with the first IBM PC and Prince Charles and Lady Di were married.
The Average yearly income was $21,050.00, the average cost of a new house was $78,200 and a gallon of gas cost $1.32.
On the television Luke married Laura on General Hospital, the cops on Hill Street Blues kept the streets safe and The Greatest American Hero flew across our screens, speaking of screens on the large screen was Raiders of the lost Arc, On Golden Pond and the Fox and the Hound.
Now this should make you feel old if you don't already, Jennifer Tisdale, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake were born within this year and on the home front I was discovering more great music.
There is so much music from the 80's I love but I think last week I got a little carried away, so this week I cut my favorites to 10 to make it a bit easier to digest. So without further ado in order here is is my top ten list from 1981.
#10 Alan Parsons Project - Games People Play
The Alan Parsons Project consisted of the line up of several British rock bands and were active between 1975 and 1990.

#7 Frankie and The Knockouts - Sweetheart
They were formed in my home state of New Jersey and the song sweetheart was their most popular even though they had 3 other top 40 singles. They wrote the original version of Hungry Eyes sung by Eric Carmen and won and Academy Award for the song The time of My Life from Dirty Dancing.
#6 Pat Benatar - Treat Me Right
Patricia Mae Benatar, who most likely will show up a few more times on my lists, is a singer, a songwriter, an actress and 4 time Grammy Award winner. She has too many accolades to list so let's just enjoy her music.
#5 Journey - Don't Stop Believing
In my opinion one of the best feel good songs ever. Tell me honestly you haven't sang along with this song when you have heard it on the radio. Formed in 1973 they had their greatest success between 1978 and 1987 again in my opinion thanks to Steve Perry. Journey had a successful reunion in the 1990's then later regrouped with a series of lead singers.
#4 Dan Folgelberg - Same Old Land Syne
A super talented composer and multi-instrumentalist he is best known for his hit songs Longer, Leader Of The Band and Same Old Lang Syne.

The year was 1980, I was paddled three times in one day for skipping school, The Empire Strikes Back and 9 to 5 were in theaters. John Lennon was shot and killed in New York. Post-It Notes go on sale. The MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas was destroyed by fire. Mount St. Helens erupted on the 27th of March, the Pac-Man arcade game was released as well as the Rubik's cube, and the world tunes in to find out who Shot JR?Read More
A couple weeks ago I did an article pertaining to things you didn't know about me. When I wrote that I mentioned my love of music. I thought it would be fun to go through the decades of my life and share with you songs that inspired me, moved me, or were just downright fun. Let's start with the 70's. This decade has so many great songs from soulful love ballads from groups like the Carpenters and Bread to the rise of Disco and Hard rock with bands like ABBA, The Bee Gee's, Led Zepplin and Black Sabbath. It's so hard to narrow this list to 20 I could literally have hundreds of songs on this list but in order here are the ones that meant the most to me. Thank you Youtube and Wikipedia for helping me put this together.Read More

#1. I was born waaaayyyyy back in December of 1968 in Atlantic City, NJ and to this day my father-in-law swears I'm a little mafia baby. This may explain why I like to gamble and have always had a fascination with the mob. But to put all questions of my ethnicity to rest I'm actually French and Scandinavian which makes me a lover and a fighter but not Mafia.Read More
As any parent who has ever tried knows, getting kids to pose for pictures can be a real, um (looking for the politically correct word here) challenge, no that’s not it, adventure, yes that’s better. It’s an adventure.Read More
It was a cold and stormy night, well actually it was a cold and stormy day. Which in this case is exactly what I was hoping for. When you're planning a winter shoot, of course, you want some snow on the ground and a gentle snow falling. Although Montana rarely disappoints in the snow department there were a couple times while I was shoveling the drifts so that I could get the right angle or so the family didn't have to walk through knee-high snow or in the case of the little one waist high I was rethinking this whole winter thing. Just kidding I loved every minute of it.
I was actually a little concerned when Randi contacted me and said the weather towards Red Lodge didn't look so great and as we were driving South from Bridger I would have to agree, it really did look stormy. Cresting the Bear Creek Hill we could see that the storm had surrounded Red Lodge but wasn't at all bad where we were going to be shooting. So after meeting at our designated spot, I had the family follow me to the location.
After shooting a couple of test shots of Travis and the family slowly getting them loosened up I could see that he Travis really wanted to have his cowboy hat on, which was fine by me I have yet to shoot anyone in a cowboy hat so who am I to pass up such an opportunity. So on went the hat and we got back to shooting in ernest.
I just loved the backdrop for this family. Their button-down shirts and western attire really worked well with the surroundings. We had a lot of fun with this location and I even had the kids making silly faces at me but those are for the families eyes only. ; )
These guys were a lot of fun and willing to try anything I had in mind, I could have spent all day out there with them. They were my ideal client, fun, adventurous, silly and just down right nice people and I think it shows in all their images.
Seriously how good do these two look together? When I said it was a dark and stormy day as you can see by this picture I wasn't kidding, and yes, I made these brave souls stand there and pose in this weather. When it comes to my images I will go to just about any lengths to get the shot, besides when I'm shooting I'm not paying much attention to the elements I'm having too much fun.
This was the last picture I took from the session. As I said before I didn't even realize it was cold until my wife said, " um hon, that baby is freezing let's wrap it up", The moment I looked into those eyes I actually felt bad, the poor thing was pretty cold so I decided we had better call it a day.
What a great time the wife and I had and I believe they had as much fun as we did. If I were to show you the behind the scenes footage, with all the laughing and giggling, you would be able to see how much fun we were having. We talked about doing Spring or Fall pictures as well so check back and you might just see this beautiful family again.
Thank you Travis and Randi for choosing me to capture these moments for you.

Last week I covered a few of my favorite tips for taking better cell phone pictures, so naturally, that leads to the next question. What phones have the best cameras?
They say the best camera is the one you have with you, with that said if you’re like me the camera you have with you the most is your phone camera. It’s amazing how fast the quality of cell phone camera's has advanced since my first phone just a few short years ago. I would trust most phone camera’s to print out an 8x10 and have it look pretty good. For the ultimate in Image quality, incredible optical zoom and the best low light performance you still need a DSLR, but if you’re looking for the best of the best in cell cams and money is no object here are my picks (without getting too techy) for the best cell phone camera’s on the market.Read More
With the popularity of cell phones and the fact that the cameras on these phones keep getting better and better I thought I would give you a few of my top tips for taking better pictures using your phone.
In my opinion, nothing will replace a professional camera for professional quality images but you can get some pretty darn good images with your cell these days. A lot of my Instagram images on my running profile are done with my cell as well as a few on my photography profile when it comes to low-resolution images on the computer it can be hard to tell the difference. So here are my tips for taking better pics with your phone.Read More
I THINK IT MAKES PERFECT SENSE TO PROTECT YOUR IMAGES WHEN YOU RELY ON THEM FOR YOUR LIVELIHOOD BUT I ALSO KNOW NO MATTER WHAT MEASURES I TAKE, NOTHING WILL STOP DISHONEST PEOPLE FROM STEALING MY CONTENT AND PHOTOS IF THEY REALLY WANT TO. I FIGURE IT'S BEST NOT TO WASTE TIME TRYING TO ACHIEVE THE IMPOSSIBLE, IT'S BETTER TO SIMPLY TRY AND DETER DOWNLOADERS BY MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO ACCESS OR USE MY PICTURES.Read More
From my perspective as the writer, I think top 10 lists are kinda fun and I get a lot of good laughs while I'm doing the research. A couple of weeks ago I did a top 10 list of weird, strange and downright stupid exercise equipment. This week I thought I would do a list of the 10 most useless, potentially hazardous and unsanitary infomercial or As Seen On Tv products. So without further ado let's get into it. Drumroll, please.
#10 The Potty Putter
Cause who doesn't want to play golf while pooping. Now when you say your golf game is in the crapper it REALLY IS in the crapper. It even comes with a do not disturb sign. If you think men spend too much time in the bathroom wait until purchase this piece of S*!^ for us.
#9 URO Club
Sticking with the bodily functions and Golf I present the URO Club. Peeing into a golf club. I don't even know where, to begin with, this one. Too many jokes, my head is going to explode. Just watch the clip, it's worth it.
#8 Long Reach Comfort Wipe
What could possibly go wrong? It certainly doesn't look like it wipes very well nor does it look comfortable or sanitary. Wait just a gosh darn minute, is that the club from the Potty Putter, well that's just genius.
#7 Neck Magic Air Cushion
Doesn't this make you think of those old National Geographic pictures of the women with the neck rings and elongated necks? Can you picture it? Well if that's your idea of comfort here is the Neck Air Magic. Just wrap it around your throat and increase the pressure. It will cut off your blood supply, air supply and separate your head from your shoulders all at once. WOW what a bargain.
#6 Neck Line Slimmer
This one didn't quite make my exercise list but it was close. Just stick this baby under your chin, nod yes half a million times and you too can have a slimmer more beautiful neckline. You may need the Neck Air Magic when you're done though. I wonder if photoshop had anything to do with the before and after shots. Apparently, the Neck Line Slimmer also works on face fat as well. Look at how amazing those cheeks look. Somehow the nose even looks straighter.
#5 Dump Meals
I know when I think of quick, easy, delicious meals the word dump always comes to mind. How about you? When I think of dumping a meal the only thing that comes to mind is the Squatty Potty. I wonder if these meals are supposed to be served in a porcelain bowl. Mmm Mmm Good.
#4 Citi Kitty
When your done with your golf game and letting your dump meal simmer your feline friend may have something simmering as well, so let's train them to use the toilet. Because cats always do what we want them too there is Citi Kitty. Take note parents of toddlers, we have been doing it wrong all these years. I know I didn't include any ENTICING Training Herbs when training my children. That may have made all the difference.
#3 The Better Marriage Blanket
If sleeping with your better half smells like sorrow and regret there is the Better Marriage Blanket. This Space Age fabric is the same material used by the military to protect against chemical weapons, and we all know someone who could be considered a chemical weapon. Use this in conjunction with the Under-Ease under pant's ( also designed to absorb farts ) and you have now taken all the fun out of sticking your better half's head under the blanket.
#2 Rejuvenique Mask
Is anyone else scared S*!^less right now? If flatulence doesn't ruin your marriage, coming home to find your better half looking like a serial killer probably will. For best results shock your face 15 minutes a day 3 to 4 times a week. Mass murderer in the making right there.
#1 Sauna Pants
Because what could feel better than a humid, sweaty, crotch? On the plus side, it's a virtually painless way to make sure you never have kids. But wait there's more!!! Men you never need to worry about shrinkage ever again. Order now and we'll send another one free, you just pay $110 shipping and handling.

Hello all, I was going to do a blog about the top ten dumbest infomercial products last week but I was lazy and laid up after having my knee operation. That one is still going to be done, but on the plus side, I got to binge watch a few new shows on Netflix and Amazon that I have been wanting to see and a couple of them were worth vegging out and staring at the tv screen for 8 to 10 hours at a time. If anyone gets a chance to watch Altered Carbon on Netflix and Absentia and Britannia on Amazon you should take it.
This week I want to share a recent maternity session. Let me start out by saying I think all of us would have rather had this session in warmer weather but all in all it really wasn't too bad. As you can probably see in the picture below the sun was shining and there was just a slight breeze. We thought we were going to get lucky and for the most part, we did.
I'm really glad this expectant couple choose this place to do the pictures. They had an old homestead on site and if you are at all familiar with my landscape photography you know I love old homes. So I tried to use it as a backdrop for several of the images.
I really liked the old wagon frame they had as well. There is just something fun and intriguing about how those that came before us lived. I love the picture below and how it represents the generations of this family. The generation that homesteaded and worked this land with the old wagon, the expectant couple who now work the land and the new generation about to enter the world.
After about 45 minutes of shooting the wind became stronger, a big shocker in this neck of the woods. The only time the wind doesn't blow around here is in the middle of July when it's hot enough to fry eggs on the sidewalks and you would pay money for a slight breeze. So I asked if I could get a few more shots in as I could tell my models were getting cold. Truth be told my wife told me my models were getting cold because once I get in the zone I would stay out there all day shooting cold or not. I'm glad she is always there to lend a hand and tell me when to wrap it up before the people I'm shooting shoot me.
So after making the mother to be suffer through a few more shots we wrapped it up and called it a day.
I want to thank this beautiful couple for a great session and allowing me to photograph them at this special time in their lives. It was an honor. Now I can't wait to meet and capture the little one in all her preciousness for them to remember forever.
I would really appreciate it if you would sign up for my email list. FaceBooks new algorithm is going to make it very hard for pages like mine to be seen unless there are a lot of meaningful comments on the posts. I promise not to send spamy emails, just updates on blogs, products or discounts. Also if you have time click on one of the banner ads and take a look around, you might see something you like.
If there is something that interests you, on just about any topic, and you would like it researched and posted let me know. I have varied interests and enjoy researching different topics. As always, comments are welcome. Have an awesome week all.
Aside from my family and photography one of my other passions in life is fitness, with an emphasis on running. For as long as I can remember I've been reading about and studying the fitness industry and science of the body. Also for as long as I can remember fitness hacks have gotten under my skin. Very few things tick me off more than these so-called wellness or fitness companies ( and I use the word fitness loosely ) and how they sell outright lies to make a buck and get away with it. Each time I see a new commercial for the latest and greatest weight loss product I cringe and start to mumble incoherent vulgarities at the tv. So to vent, venting is good therapy or so I'm told, I thought it would be fun to talk about some of the craziest, silliest, downright stupid, money wasting exercise equipment of the past few decades.
I was going to do a blog on what seems to me to be the number one lie being sold and that is spot fat loss. Most of the equipment I'm going to show you claim that it targets certain areas of your body for fat loss. Shake me and your arm flab will go away. Push me and your beer gut will disappear and you will have the chest of a Greek Andonis. Swallow me and you will lose 10lbs overnight. That last one might be true as you will be stuck on the toilet for twenty-four hours thinking you're going to die.Read More
In this finale of my three-part what to expect series, we'll dive into what happens when the camera stops clicking.
This is for those curious minded people who want to know what takes place when the session is over and for those who think that photography ends with the camera. What a lot of people don't realize about photographers is that we are expected to be a plastic surgeon, a historian, a comedian, a computer programmer, a magician, a mathematician, a social media guru, a hunter, a therapist and a master of light just to take pictures. Taking the pictures is the easy part, now the work begins.Read More
Last week we talked in depth ( I thought I just heard a yawn ) about preparing for a photo session. This week we'll talk a little about what to expect during the session itself.
Your session will be about an hour to an hour and a half. You can thank my wife, better known as my beautiful assistant for this. If it were up to me I'd probably keep you there all day. Once I start shooting I get into a zone and I'm having so much fun I don't want to stop. Before I know it she's whispering in my ear to wrap it up before the people I'm shooting start shooting me. But I digress.Read More
What to do and how to prepare for a photo session.
At the moment of booking and meeting with you to go over my pre-session questions, I already have in my head what I want the shoot to look like and have probably imagined several different locations that you or your family would look great in. With that being said I like to be the one to pick the location. Having been shooting for several years I'm aware of what makes a good backdrop and what doesn't, but this is not a steadfast rule. If there is a place you want to shoot that has sentimental value to you or is very important to you for other reasons I would be more than happy to accommodate you. If you follow this link to my portfolio you can see my style and the backdrops I like. https://www.theviewfromscottsoffice.com/portraitis
